there is a lizard in the house...

(cat "owner" talking now): When I got back from being out Sunday I opened the door and a lizard crawled into the apartment. To bad ShowLow wasn't there to pounce on the poor lizard. Anyway I am not sure where the lizard is now. I've stepped out a couple of times and haven't seen it leave, although they are quick so I could have missed it. Thus far ShowLow hasn't seemed to notice so I guess the lizard must be carefully hiding under a cabinet somewhere. ShowLow will normially stalk bugs once they come in sight or sound of him, so I guess the lizard isn't immiting any nosies he can hear. I've seen ShowLow crouch next to the fridge seemeing stalking bugs, thus far the lizard(assuming he his still inside) hasn't caught his attention. ShowLow has sort of been aloof lately, of course I have been myself lately. I think cats tend to imitate what people do. Last week I was on vacation and really didn't do anything but lay around. I didn't get much of anything acchompished. I wanted to clean up the apartment and really didn't make much of a dent into it. I've been felling pretty depressed lately. Bills and things I really can't control have been weighing me down. I had a doctors appointment today that I litterally worried about ALL week last week. And even during my vacation I worried about going back to work. I was going to bring this worring up to my doctor today, but frankly I just wanted to be in and out of there, thankfully that's how it worked up. I have a three month follow up. Tomorrow I go back to work. I am not really looking forward to it. Some of it has to do with managment some the customers, and unfortunatly one person that works there that really just pisses me off from the moment I am there until she leaves. If that person wasn't working there I think the experiace would be so much better. She is a usless employee that doesn't seem to mind her own business. She has talked to other employees about me, things that are none of her buinsess. This person has been transered within the company many times and is known for being a "problem child". Last year during the holiday's she was out to get her ankel worked on, she has been known to take LOA's during the holiday's, very convianante I say.

Cat felling "out of eet" try this....

Tuna. While not a good idea to give in large amounts over a long period of time, periodic tuna meals is a good way to help a cat this might be a little ill or just a little aloof. The omega three fatty acids found in tuna is a great source of nutrition not only for humans but for cats also. Beware of the mercury in Tuna and especially since us cats livers are more sensitive than most, so it's not a good idea for regular meals. I know from experience not only is it GREAT TASTING it also will put you back on your feet(paws) again. :)

Stop killing the Lions!!

A Show on PBS about the declining Lion population stirred up some big emotions on me. While I couldn't bring myself to watch the show I knew the premise since I watched the preview of the show. What once used to be a great population of my cousins is now approaching endangered species if it isn't already. My question is WHY. Apparently some people eat lions, this is very sad. As populated as the earth has become people have plenty of land to produce food via domesticated meat or raw food. God didn't intend man to eat Lions they are there to serve a food chain purpose and also provide us with a beautiful creature that will never be replaced by something so majestic again. Man does indeed have dominion over the animals but he also has to be good stewards to them. Eating Lions is just plain wrong. Stop doing it!

Celebrate our freedom but please be easy on our ears...

This time of year is a scary time of year for us cats. We don't understand all the loud noises that bang around us, making us hide under beds or dark closets. For cat's or dogs that might not be exclusively indoors(and they all SHOULD BE) it might even make us run away in fear because we can't understand what it going on. For us this is one time of the year that we aren't as smart as humans and don't understand why they are trying to make things so hard on our very sensitive ears. Do us a favor, go enjoy the far off displays, do not be banging your noise makers. Does this really help you celebrate your freedom, at the expense of our fear? Have a great safe and quit 4th of July.

Breeding cats inhumane....

And it's time to STOP IT! Short of government intervention, I would like to see breeding organizations voluntarily stop the practice of breeding cat's, or dogs for that matter. While I love being a cat and jokingly say that we do want to overtake the human race some day, this is just in jest. Overpopulation of cats in particular is a problem. Not only do too many cats become a danger for themselves but possibly humans because they might spread diseases. Breeding cats doesn't make any sense since there are plenty of cats living in shelters or on the streets that could use a loving home. All these cats need to be spayed or neutered to curve the over population of cats in this country. Breeding has another negative affect. These breed cats tend to have more heath problems then your average, "Tabby" cat like me. While some people like to buy a cat from a pet store or breeder because they can select a breed that has the characteristics they like, you can also do this buy letting a cat or kitten pick you out at your local shelter or weekends at many Petsmart locations. Petsmart DOES NOT sell breeded cats, only cats that are from the human society. We don't shop at Petland and hope none of our readers do either.

Help unwanted kittens out....

Here is an article that people that live here in Tucson can help my fellow kitties:

Two years with ShowLow...

I had planned on posting this on June 14, two years ago to that day when my kittie ShowLow came home to live with me. Anyway this post is the origanl post I wrote on an old blog I had that I no longer post at. Again some of the spelling and grammer is horrid, please forgive me for that. Sorry for the late post on this but the last few weeks have been pretty bad for me. I've pretty much stayed in bed when not at work. So here it goes:

Origanlly written on June 14,2007(the day a cat changed my life)
Time to let the CAT out of the bag....
Well today at around noon started on a new journey in my life, with someone else in my life and a new responsibility. I am alittle bit nervous about it and I think this special someone is too. I went to pick up my new furry friend "Showlow"(he will also go with a nick name "Bud" at time, just seems to fit. After weeks of agonizing over literally dozens of different names there just wasn't a better fit. As I was driving home with him I was thinking of the other names and nothing but showlow really stuck. For those of you that don't know Showlow(I think it's actually hyphenated Show-Low...but for the sake of my kitty it will be Showlow(one word), is a small town in the White mountains of Arizona. It is just beautiful peaceful and very cool country over there and at the same time all those aspects plus you are also revitalized because it has an awesome spirit and energy to it. And frankly those words best describe the bestest cat in the world! I know I suppose every say's that about there animal but really you need to meet Showlow and you will agree, even dog lovers will love him. Well to start the day off the procrastinator that I am went to pick up some supplies that I didn't have yet. I had a bit of food here but I wanted to get the Purina one kitty food they have, it's the dry food and supposed to be one of the better ones for developing kitties. I have some wet food also but I mostly want this kitty to get accustomed to dry. I also bought a bed(real small one) a couple of toy's a brush food and water bowls(duh I almost forgot about that. I know you would have thought I would have had all this stuff along time ago but you know me the procrastinator of the century. Anyway I went got to my co-workers house just after noon today to pick the gato up. I wanted to spend sometime getting familiarized with showlow before taking him home. Well for the most part he didn't want anything to do with me. I think he sensed something was up and was a little nervous. What is strange the first time I went to see him he was very at ease with me. But like I said I honestly think he knew his life wasn't going to be the same anymore. That can be a bit stress full for a little guy like him. Losing his Mother and all his siblings in one shooowwp. So after awhile I got him in the car. I made the mistake of not getting a carrier for him, I thought he would do just fine in one of these "moses" baskets, as I like to call them and a the bed that I got for him, plus a few of his toy's. Well this was obviously his first car ride because he was pretty nervous at least to start. I think he wanted to play more than anything(the reason I should have had the carrier) plus not completely at ease with this car business. So instead of worrying that the kitty would be all over the car I drove from one end of town to the other with Showlow in my left arm driving only with my right. A few times he got feisty and tried to get away and he had this peculiar obsession of trying to get a the steering will. Maybe he wanted to dry. But for the most part, Thank God, he actually did a pretty good job. I even got a few kisses on the hand while we were driving. He few asleep for a good part of the drive. When we got to the apartment Showlow explored a little bit but he was kind of nervous so he tried to hide even though the room I have him in there isn't much room to hide but he found it. I sort of got him out to play here and there, but I think he was pretty much whipped out with all the excitement of the day and drive. He nibbled a bit on his food which was good. He hasn't drank much water, since being here which concerns me a bit but hopefully he will get used to that. He has gone towards the litter box but hasn't used it yet. Hopefully that won't be a problem. Anyway now he is taking a nap under one of my tables on the carpet, of course, not the 15 dollar bed I got for him. Oh well I'll update the later. I don't notice that he is in the same place so I need to go find him. Fortunately there isn't much place to look around here. Until next time...meow! :)

The cat day's of summer....

Though not officially summer yet, it might as well be. Being a long hair cat summer can be tough on us. We tend to sleep allot due to the heat. Make sure plenty of water is available. One thing I like if it gets too warm is a good furr shave(just kidding) actually get an ice cube and rub it against my furr, until I notice that I am getting wet I LOVE it.

Memorial day, what? Guest commetary..

ShowLow once again has given the pen over me to write my own rant, here goes: Today was memorial day, we remember our fallen and unfallen heroes of past wars and conflicts, brave Americans that have served our great nation to preserve our freedom. How do most Americans memorialize this day. By doing there weekly shopping, it's just another day off for them, maybe get paid for the privilege of getting drunk on this day, what a way to remember. In this "recession" I saw some greedy bastards buy hundreds of dollars of junk food that the fat asses don't even need. I am amazed at how much crap people are still buying while supposedly unemployed, yes seems like the rant is turning in a different direction right? I've seen people given 300 dollars from the state I live in buy a bunch of food only to spend almost 100 bucks of there own money on booze, I want that 100 bucks taken back from the government giveaway. I better end it now before I bust a lung. People are really starting to disgust me, no wonder cats hate most of us.

cat vid...

This is a video of a cat eating a bird. Faint of heart might want to pass on this one. Also for those opposed to this sort of "behaviour", it's natural for cats to eat birds. As to the ending I think it was how fast the cat eat the bird that made him do that not the bird itself. Enjoy! :)

A few pictures....

I just thought I would post some recent pictures of ShowLow. When I first got a digital camera I was constnatly taking pictures of him and some short clips. He seemed to like that idea, nowawdays he isn't all that trilled with being snapped. Anyway eventhough this is a digital camera I haven't been able to figuer out the brightness part of it so some of the shots look a little washed out. Regardless you can see that this cat is ONE GOOD LOOKING CAT! :)

Guest commentary: ShowLow is 2 and a blessing to me...

Much of the musings on this blog is from the owner who interprets what he thinks a cat might be saying. Much of what I write for my cat is actually very true, the personality the temperament ect. Most of it, however, is done for entertainment. If you have never had a cat in your life you need to get one. Even if you don't like cats. For the most part I am willing to bet after you have lived with the cat a few weeks(give the cat a fair shake and don't go into it with any preconceived ideas)...you will become an instant "cat lover"...at least of that cat. Cats take on many of there owners personalities. They know when you are coming home from work(this is not just a dog thing). They know when they are to be fed, when they are going to sleep. They are very ritualistic, which probably is the thing that ultimately endures us to cats since humans, though they might not admit it, are very ritualistic. As I've said before on this blog cats don't like change, try to ease into something new with it, although sometimes you just have to impose your will...remember as much as they would like to thing(possibly rightfully so) YOU are the higher species here. A co-worker of mine recently came into having a cat, she never liked them said "they don't have personalities" she came to find out they have personalities to die for and now loves cats. Sometimes it's hard to read them though. If you have ever been around dogs you probably know that when they curl up and act sappy they are wanting affection...this same technique isn't really the case for cats...it's a defensive stance they do when they fell threatened, although ultimately I think it can be done in an affectionate way depending on how you respond to it. Cats don't like clutter so get used to keeping a orderly, clean home unless you want an unhappy cat. This has been a good thing for me as I tend to be a lazy person. Some people think cats are boring, completely solitary animals...not true. They love to be around you, they might not like to be smothered with affection like dogs but they like to be with you(at least for periods of time). That is one of the best thing I love about ShowLow, he is a constant companion someone I can talk to and for the most part(LOL) won't talk back or be judgemental. Recently he has taken to just laying next to where my computer desk is and taking in whatever I am doing. btw...another thing cats love is being involved in what you are doing, whether it's sorting clothes for the laundry or folding them...be tolerant of this, it's a good way to bond with your cat. Patience is a virtue in any walk of life but especially when living with a cat. If your cat isn't felling up to doing anything or being with you one day they will find a hiding place and NOTHING you do, know treats nada will make them leave there spot. They are very determined animals....probably there instinct to survive that makes them this way. Before ShowLow adopted me I was a very impatient person quick to bad tempers and yelling, cussing(mostly in my private home). Since ShowLow that part of myself(Thank God) has mostly died off. I actually fell awkward yelling or cussing around him as if he was a child(though I certainly wouldn't consider treating him as if he was one). So I am blessed to have had the privileged of spending close to the last two years(it will be two years June 14) with my friend ShowLow. As I end this commentary Show as I often call him just came in to say "hi" or something else. I guess I'll find out what he wants or doesn't want soon. :)

I AM TWO in about 7 hours...

Yes April 30th is coming soon and that's my b-day. I am expecting some cool gifts people so I hope you are reading this. CASH is fine btw. Oh guess what I got a pre-birthday gift today, guess what it was. A new Pet bed. (: GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK. A new bed. I already hate it. I liked my little old bed that was full of my smell and hair and three sizes two small for me. Why I need a bigger brighter and new smelling(YUCK) bed is beyond me. Frankly I didn't really need the other one, but got used to it. I guess some people will just never figure cats out. WE DO NOT LIKE CHANGE! Perhaps after I vomit or pee on the new bed I might actually come to like it. Heck even putting tuna flakes(My fav treat) didn't get me to lay down in it. Oh well I'll keep the guilt trip on over this new bed until better gifts come along. How about some MICE!

Seven days and I'll be two

April 30th is my birthday and I'll be two years old. I am not sure if that is 14 in human years or 10, seems to be a debate on whether it's like dogs(one cat year is like 7 human years or 5), I'd like to just think it's equivalent since I'd like to live to be 80 or 90. :) I have more stuff to post but I am tired right now so for now just wanted a quick hello.

YES CLAWS....I am on a soap box...

There is a debate in the cat community as to whether or not to declaw your cat. I say HELL NO. My owner decided very early on that he wouldn't do that to me, thank YOU! I suppose if all other options are exaughsted and the only other option is to take a cat that is bothersome with his/hers scratching activities then maybe declawing would be ok, instead of having to take the cat to a pound and possibly the cat being euthanized. I see more cats that have been "declawed" in shelters though...so I wonder if that option is really all that prudent. I think if you have a problem cat that is scratching more likely it's the owners fault not the cat. Cats naturally and normally scratch to mark there territory and also to take some of the nail tips off so it's more comfortable to the cat. So providing your cat with scratching posts and getting them used to it early on is the best option. Get cats used to NOT scratching where you don't want them buy using double sided tape or citrus scented sprays that will deter us from scratching what you don't want. Also appropriate water sprays are useful if you don't want us scratching where we shouldn't. Humane way's of getting us to scratch were we should and not scratch were we shouldn't is much better than declawing. De clawing at any age means the knuckle of each "finger" for lack of a better word is CUTT OFF, this is very painful for cats at any age. Some cats have developed problems after these procedures. Also if a cats back claws are mutated this means they have a harder time climbing trees and also there defenses are suspect meaning they might not survive a cat fight or a dog attack, where they might if they had the claws to defend themselves. Of course I wouldn't recommend that declawed cats be allowed outside but it's never a 100 percent guarantee that any cat will never slip out. Also if your cat is mainly indoor you can have the cat's nails trimmed by a professional at usually low cost or if you can get the kitten used to having the nails trimmed by yourself early on it's rather easy to do. Normally trimming doesn't have to be done with cats all that often. Also beyond popular belief you can actually train a cat not to scratch or use his/her claws at people. My owner did that early on. While there are exceptions to the rule normally I retract my claws when playing with my owner. Again these things need to be done early on.

ShowLow

Feral cats have the right to exist too....

Although there can be problems with over population of cats and problems with diseases and other stuff I believe stray(also known as feral) cats have ever bit of a right to live on as do house cats or indoor/outdoor cats. Some people are annoyed that some cats are left out or seem stray they wonder why the "owners" don't take care of them. Well some of these cat's don't really have owners, they have been put into this position by no fault of there own becuase original owners of the first cats never bothered having those cats spayed or neutered. If you are going to go out and get a cat from a pet shop....I'd rather you get one from the pound...but if you insist on getting one of those PLEASE have that cat fixed so they don't reproduce more population of unwanted cats. Some people think all cats should be trapped and then returned to the humane society, this is a possibility but there isn't a guarantee that all these cats are going to be adopted so therefore they end up being euthanized. Until we can get a "no kill" shelter in Tucson it's doubtful that the solution is just to trap them and take them there...no guarantee they will survive. If you are really don't want the "bothersome" cat under your home, why not trap it and take it to a cat haven instead of a shelter. Or if you really do care trap the cat have it fixed and take it somewhere else. I think the cat has every right to live as any other cat does. Are these cat's really doing harm by being feral? Like I said this is no fault of there own. Have you ever thought that they are providing a good pest control service and free at that...ever wonder why you don't see many pests or mice around or in your home....could be that "bothersome, poor" feral cat. So the next time you think the only option is to trap a cat in take it to the pound where it probably will be killed...take a second look, doesn't that wild, feral cat have as much of a right to live as any other wild animal....I think so.

ShowLow

do you know what your kittie is??

It can be hard to tell what a young kitten is, girl or boy, even a older cat might be hard to tell if you don't know what you are looking for. I was disappointed to find out that my "wife" (even though I never met "her") turned out to be a boy...thus we are not married...sorry I don't go that way. You can google this subject if you are interesting in finding out what your kitten is. It was easy for them to tell what I was early on becuase I was well endowed...LOL. Of course since I am fixed...if someone didn't know how I was and they actually might have to take a second look. I won't go into graphic details but sometimes the two "things"...look like something "else"...thus was the mix up with my friend Mara. Anyway nothing lost really he is now just my best bud, instead of wife. I guess I'll have to go looking for another "mate". So if you think you have an "Eve" you might take another look...you might have "Steve". LOL

Happy New Year all you cats out there...

Wow it's been almost three months since I last posted. I've been wanting to post but my "owner" has really not felt all that well in literally these last few months. Finally today he has had the most energy in a long time even though he has still felt a little under the weather from a cold he thinks he picked up in Las Cruces of the Christmas weekend. Anyway this is my second new year but the first I actually stayed up to ring it in....thanks to that dam camera that Len has now to bug me with day and night. He's shot so many different pics of me and many vids. Some of the shots I might use to take legal action against heem one of these day's if I need to. These humans and there fancy ass electronic toys. I am happy with a freaking crinkled up wad of paper to bat around...or better yet some floss(I am think of buying stock in Johnsen and Johnsen dental floss). Well it's hard to tell when I'll post next so until then keep purrin and keep a stiff upper tail!
